Being the third movement of the Theoria Suite, “Cronotheoria” is a compound word of two Greek words (Χρόνος (time) + Θεωρία (contemplation)). Consequently, Cronotheoria as a piece acts as a contemplation of time itself. Stylistically, the piece is reminiscent of early-twentieth century French music, with its modal-melodic material and extension-based harmonic language. An intimate and delicate work, Cronotheoria explores time in reference to “Trans-historicity”, specifically how stylistic traits found in early-twentieth century French music can re-emerge through his own compositional practice.
